We had our chance to meet 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Penaflorida. And be a part of his noble work of making education accessible to children like us but cannot afford it. In a way, we felt like heroes too! We joined the outreach program "My Dream in a Shoebox" 2010.First, we each put together a "gift shoebox"-- wrapped them with nice Christmas wrapper, and filled each box with school supplies. Then, we volunteered to help with the distribution of these boxes to about 200 kids at the Ladislao Diwa Elementary School in Cavite City. What a day it was! It felt so good to help out and spend our time helping others. Diego put it perfectly into words - "Today was awesome!"
Mom says that last year, My Dream in a Shoebox was able to collect and distribute 200 boxes. But this year was bigger with the number of shoeboxes growing more than fivefold to about 1,132! It was such a big success and we are proud to be part of it.Merry Christmas to all!
